Former President Barack Obama delivered an emotional and powerful eulogy during the funeral services for the late Congressman and civil rights leader John Lewis.

“It is a great honor to be back at the pulpit of its greatest pastor, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., to pay my respects to perhaps his finest disciple, an American whose faith was tested again and again to produce a man of pure joy and unbreakable perseverance, John Robert Lewis,” Obama said.

“I’ve come here today because I, like so many Americans, owe a great debt to John Lewis and his forceful vision of freedom… John Lewis did not hesitate,” the former president continued. “He kept on getting onboard buses and sitting at lunch counters. Got his mugshot taken again and again, marched again and again, on a mission to change America.”

Lewis passed away on July 17 following a long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was the last surviving speaker from the historic 1963 March on Washington. In 1965, Lewis helped lead the march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama. This event later became known as “Bloody Sunday.”

“When John woke up and checked himself out of the hospital, he would make sure that the world saw a movement that was, as the scripture says, hard-pressed on every side, but not crushed,” Obama recalled. “What a revolutionary notion, this idea that ordinary people, a young kid from Troy, can stand up to the powers and principalities and say, ‘No, this isn’t right, this isn’t true, this isn’t just. We can do better.’”

“America was built by John Lewises,” he continued. “He, as much as anyone in our history, brought this country a little bit closer to our highest ideas, and someday when we do finish that long journey towards freedom, when we do form that more perfect union…John Lewis will be a founding father of that fuller, fairer, better America.”

Obama also touched on the current climate of this country under the Trump administration, specifically the issues that citizens are facing with voting in the upcoming election.

“We may no longer have to guess the number of jelly beans in a jar in order to cast a ballot, but even as we sit here, there are those in power who are doing their darndest to discourage people from voting, by closing polling locations and targeting minorities and students with restrictive ID laws and attacking our voting rights with surgical precision, even undermining the postal service in the run up to an election that’s going be dependent on mail-in ballots so people don’t get sick.”

“What a gift John Lewis was,” the former president concluded. “We are all so lucky to have had him walk with us for a while and show us the way.”

Rights defender demands immediate investigation, prosecution

HUMAN rights defender, Prince Wiro, on Wednesday charged the Police Command in Rivers State to investigate and prosecute its personnel accused of raping a woman for breach of COVID-19 protocol.

The victim, a 32-year-old widow, said a policeman attached to the Sakpenwa Police Division, Tai Local Government Area, allegedly abducted her Tuesday to a guest house where he raped her at gunpoint after arresting her for not wearing a nose mask.

She narrated: “I was returning from Bori to Port Harcourt when I met some police officers at a checkpoint. They arrested me for not wearing a nose mask. They kept me long there with them.

“Thereafter they carried me from one place to the other, claiming they want to take me to the police station, but never took me to any police station.

“After some time, they took me to a guest house where one of them raped me till dawn. His name is Inspector Peter Iba of Sakpenwa Police Station.”

Prince Wiro, in response to the allegations, demanded the Police Command in the state to, “Open immediate investigation into the alleged rape of this woman by a serving officer.

“There is no justification for the punishment of rape to be meted out to a woman because she flouted Rivers State Government order on the use of nose masks. I expect the police to take this matter seriously.

“You know there’s a recent order from the Inspector General of Police charging every Command to do everything possible to make rape a thing of the past in the society.”

The victim had on the spur-of-the-moment on Tuesday raised alarm in a text message posted on a WhatsApp media platform where she lamented, “I have been taken to a guess house just because of N100 face mask.

“I can’t believe this is happening to me. He wants to sleep with me. I am dying. He wouldn’t let me pick any call. He threatened to seize my phone.”

The Police Command in the state reacting to the allegation through the Police Public Relations Officer, Rivers Command, Nnamdi Omoni, said: “After hearing about this, we immediately invited the lady. After hearing from her, she made a written statement and Investigation has commenced.”

#1 LUST OF THE FLESH (1 Jh 2:16 Amplified)

Use courtship to build and nurture friendship, communication and enduring qualities like godly character, virtue, integrity and compatibility. Do not indulge in premarital sex and sexual pleasure, forgetting that casual sex will result in a casual relationship.

#2 LUST OF THE EYES (Mathew 5:29)

The Amplified Bible describes this as “greedy longings of the mind” when a young man marries a lady, without really caring for her just because she is from a rich background or vice versa. All THAT GLITTERS IS NOT GOLD It is important to make the right God – given decisions.

The Amplified Bible describes this as “assurance in one’s own resources or in the stability of earthly things”. They have a false and inflated idea of their own importance. They want someone who has attributes that will enhance what they have. They are not interested in giving or contributing to another person’s life.

– Satisfy your sexual desires legally

– cook your food

– take care of his parents

– take care of his siblings

– take care of his children

– help him get the business connections he needs, and

– be a beauty queen he can parade among his friends.

– Satisfy her sexual desires legally.

– have financial security

-Provide for her parents financially

– provide for her siblings

– improve herself educationally

– provide material needs such as clothes, jewelry and cars

– go on vacations to foreign countries.

This reflects selfish motives and desires, not love. You are interested in making yourself happy, not thinking about being a blessing to someone else.

Don’t be pressurized. Your time will come too and it will be glorious, with no regrets.

Time reveals true motives.

It is sad and very serious. Don’t be disobedient to God’s word in choosing a spouse, you cannot blame God for the consequences that your choice brings. You have to bear the responsibility for your own disobedience.

What do you think of yourself? How would you describe yourself to someone if you were being objective? The picture you have of yourself is crucial to your choice of a partner, because we attract people who feed off what we think of ourselves. When you think you are a failure, you will attract people who will reinforce that idea in your mind.

Who you are with, determines who you are. Who you are determines who you will be with, and how you are treated. See yourself as God sees you. You are a pearl of great price(Mal 3:17).

he says I mustn’t date anyone else’

On June 15, 24-year-old Blessing (real name withheld) walked into the office of Advocates for Children and Vulnerable Persons Network (ACVPN), located at the Oshodi area of Lagos, to tell the horrid story of how her father had been violating her for years. Blessing’s mother died when she was 19 years old, leaving three children for her husband, Pastor Oluwafemi Oyebola, to cater for. The pastor, who is the general overseer of four churches in Ogun State, converted Blessing, his oldest daughter, to his ‘wife’.

He got her pregnant thrice and carried out abortions thrice with the assistance of a matron at a general hospital in the state. The COVID-19 lockdown ensured Blessing, her father and siblings were cooped up at home. Blessing’s siblings got used to hearing her cry in their dad’s room, but she couldn’t tell them her ordeal.

When she finally summoned the courage to say no to her dad, he allegedly took to beating her. Blessing ran away from home to stay with a friend in Lagos. She said: “I came forward to tell my story and report my dad because my younger sister and brother are all alone with him. I don’t want him to start sleeping with my sister.

He told me I was his wife. He said I must not date anyone. I don’t have friends because he disapproves of everyone he sees with me.” Blessing recollected that in 2015, her mom, a midwife, took ill, had a partial stroke and spent two weeks in hospital.

She said that her father started coming onto her when her mom was ill. She said: “He would call me every time that he needed my help. I used to be free with him. He’s my father after all. Then he started asking me to sit close to him. I was 19 years old then.

He used to say my mom was ill and no one was available to take care of him. He would ask me to hug him. He made so many moves that he scared me. “I used to assist him to shave and clipped his nails. I was clipping his nails one day when he told me that he would take that virginity which I was so proud of.

I complained to his friend, but he didn’t believe me. “My father took me as his wife. He made me promise not to date anyone. Whenever I was going out, he would tell me not to forget that I left my husband at home.” Blessing added that there was a time she refused to go home, stayed in school but Oyebola came looking for her.

She told people that he was not her father, that she didn’t know him. Oyebola, however, convinced people that he was her father by producing pictures. Everyone in school turned against her for denying her father, but they didn’t know what she was fighting against. She said: “When I got pregnant, he took me to hospital, where an abortion was carried out for me. He told the hospital I was not his daughter. Two of the abortions were done at Idiroko General Hospital by a woman called Mummy Ola.

She’s a matron. The third abortion was at a private hospital. My father told her I was his wife’s apprentice. When I was asked if he was my father, I couldn’t respond. I just cried. “Sometimes, he would have sex with me four times a day. My father has carried out three abortions for me before placing me on a Family Planning. I used to sleep in his room, but then I refused to sleep in his room.

He came to my room to flog me.” Blessing said that when she left for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), she made up her mind never to allow him to touch her anymore. But sadly after her NYSC, her father continued to abuse her. She disclosed that during the service year, she became withdrawn, but a lady got close to her. She soon narrated her ordeal to her new friend, who linked her with a human rights lawyer. “But I withdrew from pursuing the case. He’s my father.

If he was arrested, how would I and my siblings manage?” she added. But after the COVID-19 lockdown was lifted, Blessing ran away from home, to Lagos State, to stay with a friend. Blessing said she had cursed her father on the first day he raped her. “I cursed him with my virginity blood.

I told him it would never be well with him. I believe my curse had an effect because thereafter his pastors in his churches started stealing from him,” she said. Following Blessing’s report, members of ACVPN swung into action and made sure the 44-year-old Oyebola was arrested. Also arrested is an assistant matron, Mrs. Monilola Ogundimu, accused of assisting the pastor to procure family planning care for Blessing. While the police claimed Oyebola aborted thrice for his daughter, he admitted doing so only twice. He remembered it was between 2017 and 2018, before Blessing went for her NYSC in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State. Oyebola said “it was the devil” who made him take to violating his daughter. “I can’t fathom why I engaged in sexual intercourse with my daughter.

Having sex with my daughter was not intentional,” he said. While denying the allegation that he started having sex with her in 2015, Oyebola insisted that the incest started in 2017. He added: “It was not three times I carried out abortions for her.

When I realised I had been consumed by the devil’s arrow, I immediately stopped. I’ve asked my daughter for forgiveness. I was hit by the devil’s arrow targeted at me by my enemies. I could not fathom how I began having sex with my own daughter.

It’s a shameful act. But unlike what was reported in the media, I began to have sex with her in 2017 and not 2015 as claimed by the police. Also, the abortion I did for her was just once, not thrice. “I never had sexual intercourse with my daughter till 2020. I got married to a new wife after the death of my first wife. While my daughter was still on NYSC, I told her I got married and she was happy for me.

The misunderstanding between my daughter and I was because of domestic responsibility after her service year. She had insisted on going back to Port Harcourt in search of a job while I asked her to stay back and take care of her other siblings.

This didn’t go down well with her and she vowed to expose the secret. I’m married, I cannot monitor two houses and she said no. That is the only thing that caused problems between my daughter and I. I beat her as a father and she vowed to tarnish my image and expose what we did together in 2017 and 2018. I said no problem and she ran away from the house. Other information reported was a lie!” Oyebola also said procuring abortions for Blessing was was another great mistake.

“The mistake came up in November ending, 2017 and that mistake came up again in 2018 before she went for service in July 2018. I didn’t do it willingly but spiritual attack made me do such things and real Christians will understand what I meant.

I regret my actions and I have sought forgiveness from my daughter. “She has also forgiven me as she came to plead with the Commissioner of Police on my behalf. I want to sincerely beg for forgiveness from Nigerians; my action was unheard of. I seriously regret it.

“I have sinned against God and I have disappointed many Nigerians and many Christians. I pray for God’s forgiveness and I beg all Nigerians that usually pray to pray that God forgives me.” The nurse, Ogundimu, who introduced herself as an Assistant Matron and Head, Family Planning Unit, Idiroko General Hospital, Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State, explained that she assisted Blessing to start a family planning method as instructed by Oyebola, who introduced himself as Mr. James to her. She said: “Until my arrest, I never knew James is the biological father of the girl.

He told me that the girl was his housemaid.” The Secretary and Operations Manager, ACVPN, Mr. Ebenezer Omejalile, said Oyebola is a pastor of Christ Apostolic Church domiciled in Owode, Ogun State. He added: “This man turned his first daughter into a sex slave for five years and carried out three abortions, with one leading to severe complications. Two of the abortions were carried out right inside Idiroko General Hospital by a matron known as Matron Ogundimu aka Iya Ayo. “The matron was also responsible for the family planning which would expire next year.

A private hospital, suspected to be a convalescent centre, conducted the third abortion. The worst part of the story is that this pastor is a member of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Owode Ogun State, well known by so many people. Oyebola’s church occupies two plots of land in Owode, Ogun State. “ACVPN has been on his trail for close to a month until July 6, 2020. After due consultations with key stakeholders, he was arrested alongside the doctor of the private hospital and the matron.”

“Happiness is Synthetic- you either create it, or you don’t. The Happiness that lasts is earned through your habits.”

Instead of looking outwards for happiness why not look within and notice all the ways you are preventing yourself from being happy in this very moment. You don’t sort ways to be happy. The bitter truth is that it is always almost impossible to be happy with new habits without breaking the old habits.

To get you started, here are ways you prevent yourself from being happy.

#1 You expect too much. It is naturally okay for human to expect things but when you expect too much especially beyound your reach, it hurts deeply, break hearts and disappoints if it didn’t work out well. Especially if its from those we love and care about.

As Calvin and Hobbes put it “I find my life is a lot easier, the lower I keep my expectations.”

Learn to fix average expectation.

#2 You are ungrateful. You always focus on what others have that you do not have. Be grateful to the things you have instead of focusing on what others have. Stop wanting or comparing what others have. What you see on social media should stop tripping you. Whatever you see is what they want you to see, it might not be a fact.

#3 You hang around with negative people. The mood of the people around you affects how you feel, if you stay with the negative minds they affects you negatively. JOEL OSTEEM says “You cannot expect to live a positive life when you are hanging out with negative people”. They will compel their negative feelings to you that you will lack your happiness and confidence.

#4 You are a pleaser. As long as you always feel to be loved and liked as a good person, you might miss it completely. Finding people that will like and love you for who you are is a multi feeling. Do not forget that standing up to please everyone or to make them to love and like you, gives them chance to manipulate you. Such acts will deprive you from being happy. The more you hustle for approval the less other people feel at ease with you. A psycho therapist once said that once such group of people feel at ease with you, they will always cause you to be sad.

#5 You are broke. Yes money cannot buy happiness but it can help you to get happiness. Like the popular saying, it is better to cry in Lamborghini than on a bicycle. Although happiness is a state of mind but cash has a capacity to boost your state of mind. Money can enhance happiness. Get up today and work because lack of money can keep you unhappy.

#6 You don’t have goals. Goals give a centre purpose and directions. A Scientist once said that working into a meaningful life is being able to achieve goals. It makes you happy. Set goals for yourself, no matter how little, let it be an attainable and time based goals. When you achieve it, you will feel accomplished and not empty.

#7 You are stuck in your comfort zone. Your comfort zone can be comforting but it might not give you the fulfillment you deserve in achieving your dreams. Step out of your comfort zone(it gives life of regrets) , move out of your comfort zone and pursue your dreams. You can feel happy in your comfort zone but you will not feel fulfilled deep down, this can lead to regrets.

#8 You are always alone. Mother Theresa states that “the most terrible poverty is loneliness and the feelings of being unloved”. Although being alone doesn’t make you lonely but can make you unhappy. Even if you don’t have the sanguine personality learn to share few moments with people. Socialising is very good for yourself.

#9 You are scared of the future. Thinking about the future is normal but how you feel about it matters a lot. It might make you to start doubting yourself because the future is filled up with uncertainties (anxious and sad). Learn to be positive.

#10 You dwell in the past. Why do you still think about your betrayals, past wishes , mistakes? Hope you are aware that you can’t undo those actions you keep thinking about because it is now in the past. Such memories causes you to be unhappy, why are you worrying over things you can’t change . As TD JAKES states “The past is in the past, let it go”.

Get up today and look for that thing that made you sad and defeat it. Life is good and you can’t help but smile and be happy.

Learning about money does not start in schools. Most children learn about money for the first time at home and by their parents.

But what the parents teaches differentiates the one who will eventually get rich, successful and be able to manage money effectively and from the poor who couldn’t manage money and be successful . All successful parents or those who have achieved financial freedom teach their children about money from a very young age because they know how important money is and how it works in our society.

Here are what the rich teach their children about money that the poor does not.

RICH PARENTS TEACH THEIR KIDS HOW IMPORTANT MONEY IS ÷ The rich does not fail to tell their kids how money can give them a quality life regardless of the fact if they believe or not. Money gives a quality amount of freedom .It is the amount of money you have determines the quality of life you live, the place you live, the food you eat, the school you attend, the places you visit and even gives you the ability to help another.

#2 The rich teach them the difference between assets and liabilities. The most quality concepts of building money is to understand the difference between the two and they advice to use assets more. Firstly, what is the difference between the two. Assets brings money to your bank account why liabilities does the opposite, it takes away money from your bank account. Develop more in assets, invest in cash flow investments . The rich use their assets to buy luxury unlike the poor that takes out from their bank to buy luxurious things. As Robert Rikosaki states ” Looking good but going no where”.

#3 The rich teach their kids how to manage their money÷ They teach their kids about this through carrying them along as they plan and manage the house hold expenses. They familiarize their kids on the reality of having living expenses which helps them as they grow up to become an adult.

#4 They teach them different ways to earn money. Many rich people allow their children to get job, the customer service jobs via this they know the price one pays to get money. You can give your time for money, have money work for you, provides a system that gives you money, assets that generate money. This prevents them to be stuck in a place trying to make money. Poor people only knows one way to make money which is giving their time to make money.

#5 They teach them how to develop productive habits ÷ The rich knows that it is not what you do that makes you wealthy but what you do consistently. The rich Carry their plans consistently . The best way to get such habits is to to be able to do it naturally. They start now to build it up in their children knowing fully well that this is one of the best skills they can have. Modifying the habits which is extremely powerful for the child in longterm success.

#6 No one owes you anything. This fact is very important for the intelligent rich people. The sense of entitlement can affect the child in the future. They teach them to go out and earn their success. Most intelligent rich men believe that their children should have to find it their own way.

#7 Social and influence skills. This words seems as if it does not have anything in connection to finance but in the business world its very important. The ability to create influence with people around you creates sense of leadership. And this helps the child to understand the emotions, motivations, and skills earlier in life. When a child have a good sense of communication skills and socialization, it opens more opportunities, makes them more influential and strong leaders.

#8They teach them about delayed gratification(patience). They educate them on the importance of applying Micro speed and macro patience meaning to apply micro speed in hard work then the macro patience is to wait for the manifestation of the hard work. That their hard work will pay and the hard work will worth it.

#9 The rich understand the fact that there is always more money. The rich knows that there are lot of money out there and there is no limitation, you can earn as much as you desire. There are are more money. Your job is to go and get it. Everyone have money for what they want and need, simply give them what they need and want and have the money. The best way to make money is to help people, meet their needs and wants. The rich understand that you generates money via the amount of value you provide.

#10 The rich understand the fact that they don’t know everything. They come in group to learn and know things. They spend time with people that know what they do not know so that they can improve their own. That is why they seek for mentorship, counselling, coaching.

Anthony Marvel is an American actor and film producer who openly spoke against Marvel’s hiring process. The actor has spoken out about the lack of diversity in the company’s hiring process for their movies.

Mackie who plays Falcon in the movies and (spoiler) is the next Captain America, talked about the problems behind the scenes at Marvel Studios, which is owned by Disney during a recent Variety interview with fellow actor Daveed Diggs. He said:

It really bothered me that I’ve done seven Marvel movies where every producer, every director, every stunt person, every costume designer, every PA, every single person has been white.

Mackie who has starred in three Avengers movies, two Captain America movies and is currently filming The Falcon and theWinter Soldier TV series added that Nate Moore is the only black producer he has worked on in that entire time, having been an executive producers on the Captain America films.

He produced ‘Black Panther.’ But then when you do ‘Black Panther,’ you have a Black director, Black producer, a Black costume designer, a Black stunt choreographer. And I’m like, that’s more racist than anything else. Because if you only can hire the Black people for the Black movie, are you saying they’re not good enough when you have a mostly white cast?

Marvel were praised for both the critical and financial success of Black Panther but there has been no confirmed date as to when a sequel to the film will be released. To date this is the only Marvel movie to feature a non-white lead character but the studio has started to show more diverse decision making for the next set of movies with Shang-Chi and The Eternals all featuring Asian talent both in front and behind the camera.

Although Mackie is certainly brave to speak out against Marvel his words have clearly resonated with some people.

Have you ever imagined on the kind of legacy you are leaving for your children, family, Community, your world? Many people never thought about this and they forget that legacy is something you are creating everyday, whether you like it or not.

According to Dictionary, Legacy comes from the Latin verb, legare which originally is defined as “ambassador” or “envoy” but later shifted to mean the money and property a person leaves behind in his will.

All the above definition met its meaning but legacy is beyound that, it can be pathways that guide people in decisions with what to do or what not to do. It can be the story of someone’s life, how they lived the life. The places they went to, the things they did, their failures, their success, goals they accomplished. It is something that someone leaves behind to be remembered by. Creating a legacy is a situation in which your values and successes can live on. By leaving a legacy is by leaving something of benefit or meaningful behind when our corporal existence has ended.

Here are points to ponder on leaving a legacy

– Do those things you are supposed to do and you will earn your name a favourable place in history.

– Igniting your abilities is living according to God’s blueprint for you.

– Give your ability a reasonable responsibility and it will do what it ought to do .

– Motivate yourself and you will be a challenge motivating others.

-Be challenged by the vast ability lying in the inside of you.

-Everybody wants to be motivated, but only few are challenged. Be a challenger.

-Great men attack opportunities; they never wait for it to come.

-Opportunities floating around you, are enough to motivate you.

-You have a unique and limitless ability that does not exist in another person.

-There is a demand placed on your ability, supply it by Igniting it and you will leave a positive legacy.

Our chief want in life is someone to inspire us to be what you really want to be. # RALPH WALDO EMERSON#
